BEAUTY / RETAIL : TRUEFITT & HILL
THE TASK
Bloomsbury Communications were asked to create an awareness campaign for Truefitt & Hill to attract more clients, both London residents and overseas tourists.
ACTIVITY
Research showed that Truefitt & Hill is the oldest barbers' business in the world. Bloomsbury Communications approached Guinness World Records to establish the record. A certificate was presented to the manager and to the most senior customer at a press call. The presentation was held outside the shop in St James's, London and attracted world-wide media attention.
RESULT
CBS filmed for a news bulletin inside the shop and put the story out coast-to-coast in America. Russian TV filmed the presentation for broadcast in Moscow and Asaki TV interviewed staff in the shop to be broadcast in Japan. The UK's South East TV News attended the photocall and ran the story after the main evening news. Radio stations and national press also attended the press conference and many carried the photographs.
Following this presentation, information about the services available at Truefitt & Hill was distributed to concierges at major London hotels and tourist organisations in order to encourage them to tell their clients about Truefitt & Hill.
Following the publicity Truefitt & Hill became a regular stop on some of London's sightseeing bus tours.
